New Perspectives: The Internet 10e Comprehensive

Chapter 1

I did not enjoy reading Module 1. Part of this is that my book was supposed to arrive in the mail yesterday and didn't, so I had to find a shady site with a somewhat distorted PDF that ended either after the first chapter or right before the chapter ended. (On that note, the fact that I needed to do this made the parts where the book emphasized copyright law a bit grating, though obviously understanding the law is an important aspect of using the internet.)

The other part was that I have been using a browser for 2 decades, and I just didn't see much here that seemed new to me. I would say I know it all already, but my quiz results have proven that that isn't actually the case. Still, I think most of that was an issue of translating what I know intuitively as an experienced browser user to vocabulary and key words. It's difficult to pay attention to information that seems entirely redundant.

I think this is something I need to work on though, because I can't just assume that I already know everything if this is something I am actively trying to learn. I don't know what different types of screwdrivers are called even if I can use them, but if I were to try to become a mechanic it would be important for me to get over my refusal to learn which one is a phillips head. If I was going to work with other mechanics, I would need to know what tool they needed for the job. So, I suppose this chapter taught me humility.

I did learn that the bar in Chrome is called the omnibox! I did not know that before! That was my favorite part.
