New Perspectives: The Internet 10e Comprehensive
Chapter 2
After reading Module 2, I felt like I enjoyed it more than Module 1, though maybe this was partially because I don't send emails as often as i simply use a browser, so information I did know didn't feel quite so frustrating to read about. I didn't really know the process of an email being sent and thought that was really interesting and useful to know. The ways that email works on the back end are a little more mysterious to me than the ways that browsers and webpages work. I only learned about it being a completely seperate protocol from the world wide web back during Appendix A and have been curious about how that works ever since, so it was interesting to learn about, though if I am being honest, it did still leave me wanting more about the technical aspects.
I felt like the module gave me some new ideas for how to use email in my day to day life. My general strategy has been to have one main email that I use for junk and important alerts alike, because I started that email for junk but liked gmail better than my previous email service. Over the decade I've been using that email I have never cleared my inbox, and while it's fine for now, it does not have enough space left for another decade's worth of cruft. Generally if I need to be more specific with my emails, I have a few other email addresses for business, job searching specifically, freelancing, specific projects, an extra personal email for my facebook account to be attached to, an account to act as the primary account for my android devices, and probably more addresses I don't remember right now. I never considered using labels before, and this made me realize that would be a better way of organizing some of these accounts. I also had not considered that I might be able to set specific filters for my emails beyond just the default ones I use. That might help in eventually clearing out my inbox of the decade of junk without losing important stuff.
